Retrieving picture folders

Had to reinstall WIN XP Home Edition
Folders with my pictures from former XP not available.
Ran Search All Files and Folders.
Can see folders containing needed pictures scroll by but
do not come up on folders found list.
How do I retrieve these files?
Same problem with old lists for Web Favorites and Outlook
deleted and sent items in old mail. These items appear
while scrolling SEARCH but do not appear on found list.
 
Exact same problem, NO choice but reinstall, lost all
settings, couldn't get into DOS to save info, and lost
hundreds of photos.

Suggestions for retrieving them?

Type taking ownership in Help. Read it carefully as instructions differ between home and pro.
