hi all,

upon doing a reinstall of Windows 2000, i was able to import the email
messages from the old .pst just fine. but what i can't import are the
email account settings, rules, autocorrect, etc. is there a way that i
can import these settings?

thanks in advance.

Hi XB,

Import or export a set of rules
----------------
When you import rules (rule: One or more automatic actions taken on e-mail
messages and meeting requests that meet certain conditions, along with any
exceptions to those conditions. Rules are also referred to as filters.),
they are added to the end of the list of rules. You can import only one set
of rules at a time. When you export rules, they are saved in a file with an
..rwz extension.

In the Navigation Pane (Navigation Pane: The column on the left side of the
Outlook window that includes panes such as Shortcuts or Mail and the
shortcuts or folders within each pane. Click a folder to show the items in
the folder.), click Mail.
On the Tools menu, click Rules and Alerts.
If you have more than one e-mail account, in the Apply changes to this
folder list, click the Inbox you want.
Click Options.
Do one of the following:

Import rules:
------------------------
Clickl Import Rules
In the File name box, type the path and file name for the set of rules you
want to import.
If you want to import a file that contains rules other than Rules Wizard
rules, such as rules that are compatible with previous versions of
Microsoft Outlook, click the file type in the Files of type list.
Click Open.

Export rules
-------------------
Click Export Rules.
In the File name box, type the path and file name for the set of rules you
want to export.
If you want to export a file that contains only rules that are compatible
with a previous version of Outlook, in the Save as type list, select
Outlook 2002 Compatible Rules Wizard rules, Outlook 2000 Compatible Rules
Wizard rules, or Outlook 98 Compatible Rules Wizard rules.
Click Save.

You can create a backup copy of your rules by exporting them to a file by
using the procedure above.

Please let me know has this helped You...
Thank you...

I also want to retreive my email account settings and
while trying to follow your procedure, I find No RULES
WIZARD in tools. I assume your procedure is done before
you uninstall windows and therefore outlook.

Now that I have outlook reinstalled, how to recover or
import or restore these email account settings?

It is very important to include as much information about your own setup
as possible -- including what version of Outlook you are using and what
operating system. Without knowing exactly what you have, it is difficult
to answer your questions.
1. Where your rules are located depends on the last version of Outlook
you used. * In Outlook 97, 97, and 2000, the rules were stored in a special
file named <profile>.rwz. You can copy that file to a new location and
import them into a new Outlook installation. * Beginning with Outlook 2002,
your rules are hidden items in your PST. That means that when you move
your PST, your rules come with it -- but they may have to be edited/revised
to work with a new profile name or location.
2. Your email account settings are generally not transferrable. There
are two cases where you can transfer that information: * If you were using
Outlook 98 or 2000 in Internet Mail Only mode and transfer to another installation
of Outlook 98 or 2000 in Internet Mail Only mode (Import Internet Mail
Settings) * If you were using Outlook 2003 and move to another Outlook
2003 installation (use the Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard)
In all other cases, you must recreate your account settings.
