Retrieving cookies???

We deleted our cookies for security purposes but we want to recover them.
I've tried file recovery programs like File Scavenger and Undelete but I
can't figure out where to recover the cookies to. How can I get my cookies
back? Can anyone help?

I don't believe this is possible. Even if you could recover the
individual files and store them into the correct folder, there's no way to
get them back into index.dat. If they're not in index.dat, IE can't see
them.

Hi user_comp_ie :-)

While it won't help get your Cookies back at this point, here is a free
utility that may help prevent loss of information such as Cookies,
Favorites, History, etc.
BackRex - Internet Explorer Backup - Free Download
http://www.backsettings.com/internet-explorer-backup.html
Backsup all IE files, including Cookies and Favorites
I use this program and like it very much. I back up at least every two
weeks. That way, if I lose something i n between backups, it is not that
bad. You can also transfer the backups to a new computer if need be.

If you use OE for your emails and newsreader, here is an excellent backup
for that as well.
Outlook Express Backup programs
www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/)

Hope this helps.

Me too. So even the file recovery programs won't work for this. That's
disappointing.

'Fraid not. Once it is deleted, and once you have continued to use the
computer, the chance of recovering deleted files is very remote. If you
absolutlely have to have them , there are companies who will try to retrieve
them for a healthy fee, But, if they are not really that important, just
revisit the sites and get the Cookies again.

Here is a description of the Cookies and perhaps it will shed some light on
how they work and how to work with them:
Description of Cookies

How to Set and Customize Cookies Settings in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q196955
Here are a couple of programs that deal with cookies only,
The cookies Manager
http://home.nordnet.fr/~pmdevigne/CookiesManager_e.html
or
Cookie Viewer v3.3
http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptcookie.asp

also..

In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > General tab (the first one) > click
on Settings > click on View Files.

Select only the cookies you wish to keep, then go to Edit menu and choose
'Invert Selection'. This will select everything *except* the cookies you
want to keep. Delete the selection and,
voila

Hope this helps.
