retrieving contacts after install

My Outlook 2003 is corrupted; it opens but then immediately hangs. I think I
need
to uninstall it then reinstall it again. I have a large address book and
many saved messages (which I backup regularly so I think I can retrieve my
saved messages when I reinstall). Without being able to work in OUtlook to
export my current contacts, will I somehow be able to save them? I've already
tried just doing a reinstall, without first uninstalling, that didn't fix
anything.

Thanks, Judy

All of your mail, contacts, calendar dates, and so on are all stored in a
single place. If you're in an Exchange environment, that's usually the
Exchange server. If not, it's the Personal Folders file (PST). That file
is preserved if you uninstall and reinstall Outlook, but you would probably
need to tell Outlook to use the existing file rather than the new one it may
create.

Have you tried running a Detect and Repair? Open Control Panel and choose
Add or Remove Programs. Locate Micorosft Office (or Outlook), select it,
and click Change. Select the "Reinstall or Repair" radio button and proceed
from there.
