Retaining formating of slides

I use NT and PowerPoint 2002 and, when I go to insert a slide from a file I
am offered the option "Retain Formating".
A friend used 2000 and PowerPoint 2000 and is not offered this option.

Is there somewhere my friend can turn that option on? It is frustrating to
send slides for inclusion in a presentation and not to be able to ensure
that the formatting is retained.

That option is not available in 2000

As Michael explained, that feature is not available in PPT 2000. But you
might steer your friend to http://www.echosvoice.com/multipletemplates.htm
for some workarounds.
