Did I understand correctly in that there are not separate retail packages
but that you will have the option to install either 32bit/64bit when you
install?

the dvd itself has both versions..

but the product key will be for the one you have bought

One product key
2 DVDs -- 1: x64 2: x86

oh yes sorry... I was thinking about the various versions of vista (home
buisiness etc).. not 32-64 bit

my mistake

At this point it appears that both DVD's will be included with the FULL
edition and the 64-bit DVD will have to be ordered with the upgrade. Full
Version you will be able to install either one as a custom install. Upgrade
will only work for the bit version you have to install from

Clarification on that last statement. There will be no way to upgrade XP64
to Vista64. You can use the upgrade version of Vista but you will have to
do a clean install.

Thanks. :-)

Actually, I think John meant to say you can upgrade an existing Vista x64
SKU such as Vista Home Premium x64 to Ultimate x64. But as you rightly said,
no upgrade paths from XP x64 to Vista x64.

That is not correct. There are separate dvd's for x86 and x64 in the retail
full edition box. What is in the retail upgrade edition box is still
unconfirmed.
