I have a small home network via a router. I have a data drive that, for now, is "wide open". I want to change the access to allow my kids (in particular) to have access to their folders and certain other ones ONLY.
Do I have to "unshare" the drive and then have multiple network drives set up for particular folders? I am on Home XP and am using NTFS.
Thank you.

Depending on what data you have to protect... setting up your kids with a
limited account and password protecting you own should do the trick...
No?? Any folders under My Documents would then be off access to any other
users, providing you choose this option when password protecting your
account. Sure a lot easier than trying to configure multiple drives only
to ban access!

XP Home: By default, you can only make files and folders under My Documents "private". This is done by right clicking a folder or file and selecting Properties, Sharing. To change the permissions on other folders, you need to boot the computer to Safe Mode and log in on the built in Administrator account. In this mode, you'll see the Security tab in Properties, and you can assign permissions based on user name or group membership.
