Hello,

I need help setting up security on a shared folder.
The only two options I get under "Sharing and Security"
are:
1. Share this folder on the network
2. Allow network users to change my files

What I need is a bit more flexibility like in win2k
I would like to either set a password on a shared folder
or let some users or user groups to see the folder and
other not to.

I am not IT challanged, but was unable to find anything
that would help me, maybe somebody here can.

Thank you

Hi Alex,

Open your Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer!) and go to Tools ->
Folder options -> View. Scroll down to the bottom and remove check mark
where it says "Use Simple file Sharing". Click Apply or OK.

Now you should have all the options you have under Win2K...

Thank you for answering :)

Unfortunately I don't have this option to uncheck :/
Where else can I find it?

Yes, I am using XP Home Edition...
And I finally found the answer to my question, and it is NO
Here is the article from Microsoft HOW TO: section...
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;303248&FR=1&PA=1&SD=HSCH

Apearantly, with Home edition you cant do it.
There must be SOMETHING I could do short of Upgrading or
installing a third-party app.

any thoughts?
