While trying to eliminate a couple viruses I messed up my
system. Adware.Ipinsight is what I tried to eliminate.
When I got to, following the instructions from
securityresponse.symantec,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on there were two of them. A CurrentVersion file (1) by
itself and a CurrentVersion file (2) with many more files
in it. Idiot I am I could not find the the file
CurrentVersion\Management\ARPCache\IPInsight in the (2)
Version so I just figured it was in the other Version (1)
and I DELETED IT. BIG MISTAKE. That move Removed my LOG
OFF, MY DOCUMENT shortcut, MY COMPUTER shortcut, My
Programs List from START Menu, can not open OUTLOOK,
CANNOT OPEN RESTORE, Shutoff Norton Internet Security Pro
and God knows whatelse. I cannot believe I can get on
Internet to send this message.
Also tried to eliminate Adware.Cydoor from instructions
from symantec also but could not find
HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Cydoor or the 4 other keys
they listed to delete
ANY HELP! THANKS

And you didn't make a backup of the registry before taking such drastic
measurements?

If you are running Windows XP/ME you can try starting in save mode to see
whether you have any restore points. If you haven't configured this or you
are not running Windows XP/ME you could try a repair or upgrade of Windows.

Otherwise you'll have to start from scratch again and format your HD

It was about 4 in the morning I had tried for HOURS
trying to figure it out and I did not know how to back up
registry and was foolishly frustrated. I did mention it
was a stupid move on my part. THANKS for your reply.

You're welcome! The eassiest way to create a back-up is to export te key
before you delete it. This will create a reg-file which you can import again
by doubleclicking on it.

Good luck with rebuilding!
