I have two computers... one with windows ME (which I am using now) and one with windows XP. I had th
virus W32.blaster.worm in the one with XP. I downloaded the worm removal tool and ran it on the "sick"
computer. I think I removed the virus but I still have the problem of being shut down every time I connect
to the internet. I get a message " Terminated unexpectedly by the NT Authority system because of Remote
Procedure Call (RPC). This happens about 30 mins after connecting to the internet. I have been told to
reinstall windows XP on the sick computer and this will start my computer fresh from point of purchase. I
have nothing stored on my computer that is important so I would like to do this if this is possible. I have
also been told that windows XP is loaded on my hard drive because I did not receive a CD to instal
windows XP with my computer which is only a year old. Please make it as simple as possible becaus
I am not a computer person, but I can do some simple tasks if I have step by step instructions.

What I would do: Download the patch mentioned by Kipper, save it to a CD if
you can. Dig out your documentation that came with you computer or go to the
manufacturer's website and find out how to use your Restore Partition to
restore your computer as it was when you got it. Disconnect the computer
from the internet, restore your computer from the Restore Partition, apply
the patch you saved on disc, (if you can't do that, before you connect to
the internet be sure to enable the Windows XP firewall). With the XP
firewall enabled you should be able to run Windows Update and get completely
protected.
Then if you're on broadband (or even dial up as far as that goes) get a
software firewall and fully protect yourself.
