Lost my hard drive. Reinstalled Windows and Office 97. Have access to the inbox.dbx from previous Outlook Express. How can I move my old messages into my current inbox.dbx. I assume the .dbx is where my messages are retained by Word. Thanks.

Please keep in mind that this is a Microsoft Word NewsGroup and that the
Outlook/Outlook Express NewsGroups would be more suited for your question,
however, here goes:

You basically have two choices. If you are using the exact same version,
either of these options will apply:

Option #1: Open Outlook Express, click "File", "Import", choose the version
of Outlook Express you have and the things you want imported (in this case
messages), browse to the folder where you have your Inbox.dbx file(s) and
click "OK".

Option #2 (use if your present Inbox and stuff is completely empty): Open
Windows Explorer, do a file search for "*.dbx" files. You should see two
folders (the right ones that outlook Express uses (different depending on
what Windows version you use), and the folder where your backups are. make
note of those folders and simply move your backup files into the folder you
found that Windows uses for messages.

Obviously the first one is a little more user friendly unless you are
Windows savvy.

Holler back if you have problems.
