I have old files backed up with win95 on floppies. I want

it.i do not have the old computer win win95 anymore.

Hi

What kind of files are they? If they are data files, and you have the appropriate program installed in XP, then you can copy/paste those files from the floppy disk to where the program saves its files on the hard disk/partition.

Windows XP is able to read standard diskettes created with
Windows 95.

Hi, Ozzie.

Depends on what you mean by "backed up". If these were simply backup copies
of your files, all you have to do is put the floppy in your WinXP computer.

But if you mean you used the Backup program from Win95, then you probably
will need to find a computer running that Win95 Backup program and use its
Restore function.

Tell us more and we can give you a more definitive answer.

Thanks. I used the backup from win95, and they are mostly
word and midi files (my midi files, created by me). I
have many diskettes and some diskettes might be lost,
they may not be in order as they were backed up
originally. If I find a computer with win95, can I
restore them even some diskettes are missing. Can i use
also Dos or anything else to restore them? your help is
greatly appriciated.

Sorry, Ozzie. As Paul Harvey sometimes says, "Don't ask me for details.
I've already told you MORE than I know." :>{

I've never been a big user of Backup\Restore programs. (My main use of
backup\restore was for something like moving a 5MB program by backing it up
to multiple floppies and restoring it on the other computer.) But I'm sure
there are many users here who know the answer to that. If you don't get a
good answer here in this WinXP newsgroup, you might try one of the many
Win9x/ME newsgroups.

My limited understanding of backup\restore generally is that each backup
program uses its own compression and coding algorithms, which are not likely
to be understood by any restore program except its own companion program,
which may actually be a component of the backup program itself.
