I am getting error message "Files that are required fro Windows to run
properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system
stability Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert
XP Professional SP3 CD now". Cannot do this because XP installed by OEM with
machine, and SP3 installed from download. How please can I identify and
replace the rogue files?

Hello,

Do you have CA Antivirus? If so, this is because of a recent CA Antivirus
false positive

You will need to un quarantine the files. See the below link to how to do
this.

Otherwise, there should be a i386 folder in your C drive. You can slipstream
SP3 with this folder to create a XP SP3 installation folder

Do you know the names of the files that you need
to replace?

If you can't get a CD from a friend then I could
upload them from my CD for you.

Thanks for the offer, but my error message gives me no clue about which are
the bad files

You could get an XP CD from a torrent and use it to
run "sfc scannow", but don't install with it. Read the
torrent's comments to find out if it is good.
