Is there a way to restore as of an earlier date on windows
2000 professional?

If you're referring to System Restore then no, that's not a feature in
Windows 2000. Only with Windows ME and XP and later.

If you mean restore from backup, then that depends on who did your backup
and how they did it.
 
No use to you now, but for future use install GoBack. The cut
down version included with Norton SystemWorks Pro works fine and
has saved my bacon on many occasions.
