In an effort to keep the size of my .pst files manageable,
I create an archive when they get to be about 300M in
size. Some time ago, to free up disk space, I burned many
of these archive files to CD-R. Unfortunately, in doing
so, they became read only files. Even when I copy them
back to my hard drive, Outlook won't open them. How do I
restore their original status as Read/write files so
Outlook will open them ? I need to gain access to an old
email.

Remove the "Read Only" file property when you copied them to your harddisk.

After copying them to your hard drive, right-click them and cloose
"Properties". Then uncheck the "Read Only" attribute.

Is it possible to create a PST file on CD that behaves as though it were on a normal magnetic disc (read not archive) and from which you can read from a lap top whilst not connected to a network (i.e. burn to CD to save server space

Thank
Richard

No - pst requires full read/write access
