I use "Backup MY PC" to do my weekly backups on my home network's computers.
I do a full backup and save it (overwrite the old file) as 1 large file onto
the spare hard drive (that I bought just for that purpose), as opposed to
doing an incremental backup. The files are stored with an extension of
".qic", which was also the old '95 and '98 backup program's extension.
Well, the inevitable happened and I had to do a re-install onto the original
drive from the spare hard drive where the weekly backup is still stored.
The big problem is that "Backup My PC" won't use the file because it says
the index for the cabinet file is not present (or something to that
effect...). Whoa!
Does anybody know of a program I can either download or buy that will allow
me to open that file so I can restore my original drive? I've got thousands
of photos and several hundred documents that I really miss and need.
Can I put a partition with '98 on it and boot off of it to access the .qic
file and try a restore that way? The .qic file I need to use to restore is
about 10 GB.
As an added "learn the hardway" item, I am now doing my backups onto the
spare hard drive (like before), but am also doing it onto DVDR's as a method
of redundantcy. DVD's are pretty cheap now, and I only use about 3 or 4 at a
time when I do the backup.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
