I accidentaly deleted my recycle bin from vista, I restored it, but now it
always shows empty even with files in it, is there anyway to correct this, I
tried restoring it a couple of different ways, but nothing works.

The soultion to the recycle bin problem where it always stays empty even if
it is full...

I called Microsoft and asked them to help me, but since the Windows Vista
that I have came with the laptop that I bought they wanted to charge me 60$
to help me with this problem. So, they sell a product with problems and then
charge people for the solutions; that makes a lot of sense. I didn't pay them
a dime and never will. After a while I eventually figured it out. After this
message I am changing the OS to Fedora.

HERE IS THE FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM: right click on desktop, got to
'personalize', then in the left column click 'change desktop icons'.
Afterwards, click on the 'recycle bin empty' icon and change it with the icon
that shows the recycle bin full...and do the same for the 'recycle bin full'
icon. Click apply. Now when the recycle bin is full it will show empty and
when empty it will show full. Go back and change them to the normal icons as
they should be and it will solve the proble.

The recycle bin is useless anyway, because it doesn't contain any files or
directories that you can get your hands on. The icons in the bin are just
pointers that don't mean anything outside this lousy OS.

Very often when you want to restore something, you want to put it somewhere
else than its original place. Vista doesn't let you do that simple
operation.

Data files (documents, images, etc.) should be stored only in a genuine
directory structure and backed up to the same genuine structure on different
media. Then if you decide to delete anything, you know you have a reliable
copy that will be available not only to future versions of Windows, but also
to other OS. You just create the directories and set the share options if
other users need to use them.

Don't put anything critical in 'My documents' or whatever it's called,
because it's really difficult to find how the real files have been stored,
and nobody else can use them.

Having said that, given the storage capacity we now have, I don't understand
why you should want to delete anything that isn't ..er.. compromising (or
really big like a long movie). Just copy the stuff to a directory named
something like 'Stuff I dont think I need anymore' - and make sure you do a
backup.

You are most definitely a cretin.

Until items are deleted from the Recycle Bin, the disk space they use
is unavailable.

bin it will always show it empty even if it is full of files....Help.:(
Damn, are you really that stupid and incompetent?

Same prob as Josh
Icon works fine - refreshing instantly when bin emptied and filled. But when opening full RB containing 60 items, explorer window and status bar show bin is empty.
Tried deleting $Recycle.Bin file, no luck. RB properties are all as they should be.
Help.
Cheers,
