The recycle bin is useless anyway, because it doesn't contain any files
or directories that you can get your hands on. The icons in the bin are
just pointers that don't mean anything outside this lousy OS.
Very often when you want to restore something, you want to put it
somewhere else than its original place. Vista doesn't let you do that
simple operation.
Data files (documents, images, etc.) should be stored only in a genuine
directory structure and backed up to the same genuine structure on
different media. Then if you decide to delete anything, you know you
have a reliable copy that will be available not only to future versions
of Windows, but also to other OS. You just create the directories and
set the share options if other users need to use them.
Don't put anything critical in 'My documents' or whatever it's called,
because it's really difficult to find how the real files have been
stored, and nobody else can use them.
Having said that, given the storage capacity we now have, I don't
understand why you should want to delete anything that isn't ..er..
compromising (or really big like a long movie). Just copy the stuff to a
directory named something like 'Stuff I dont think I need anymore' - and
make sure you do a backup.
