My computer running XP, shut down while doing a restore.
Now when I try to boot up, i see this message
that "Windows could not start because the following file
is missing or corrupted. <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll".
When I go to help, I get the C prompt and the available
commands. FIXBOOT is one of them. Will FIXBOOT maybe
take care of replacing this file? I know how to find
system files, but I can't do it in this situation.
I set to boot from CD and put in my windows XP upgrade CD.
When I get the option to go to Restore console, I
press "R". That takes me to the type "exit" to boot
windows and never enables me to find the .dll file I need
to replace. Any suggestions how to replace this file in
the system32 folder where it belongs?
