How do I find and/or restore a data file folder deleted
from a Windows 2000 Server, by a Windows XP Pro network
client?

Thank you,
Dennis M. Callan

Restore from a backup, if you don't do backups then you are probably out of
luck. As you just found out, files deleted over a network are not sent to
the recycle bin. There is software that will undelete files, but the longer
you run the server the less likely it can be recovered. When a file is
deleted the disk space is marked as usable, the longer the system runs after
the files were deleted the more chance the disk space that the data resided
on was overwritten with new data.

Thanks, William.
That's pretty much what I was afraid the answer would be,
once I looked in the empty recycle bin. I tried to
convince the head of this company not give users delete
file permissions on the servers, but he didn't want to
listen. Now he can pay me to trudge through the tape
backup from hell to try and find this one folder.
Oh well.
