When I try to use restore the points are shown in the
calendar but once the programme has started and then
rebooted I recieve a message indicating that it can not
restore. I have tried to restore to a number of different
points all with the same result.
I have administrator rights
Any ideas

Roger;
There may be corrupted data in system Restore.
Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.

If you watch this NG on a daily basis you will see dozens
of posts about the System Restore. System Restore is the
most useless piece of junk programming ever incorporated
into an OS. The restore points are affected by anything
from disk optimizing(de-frag,chkdsk and so on) to virus
scans. As I tell most newbies. Simply turn off the System
Restore and save aggravation and time. Instead use the NT
Backup in XP. If you have HE then it is found on your
disk. Put the disk in the drive and when the auto play
brings up the selection screen click "perform additional
tasks" then click explore this CD and then look for
valueadd\msft\ntbackup and click on the install icon found
there and NT Backup will be installed in your start\all
programs\accessories\system tools . Have fun.
