My system restore will not restore to an earlier date
because of registry problems. how can i fix this?
This happened after I used lavasoft and put files in a
vault. should I be concerned?
I know I have viruses and I like to clean them up without
spending money.

Hi There

I think if your restore points are damaged there is
nothing you can do to bring them back but most Viruses
can be deleted with the right removers. Some cannot be
removed by online scanners as the viruses are running so
I will post afew online scanners and also some scanners
you can download and run in safe mode.

Download Ewido Security Suite
-----------------------------
http://www.ewido.net/en/

Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options"
uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via
context menu".
Launch ewido
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe
mode.

Download TrendMicro's Sysclean

http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/tsc/sysclean.com

This next part needs to be extracted and put in the same
folder as Sysclean

http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/pattern/lpt785.zip

If needed create a folder by right clicking a empty space
and choosing new then folder name it and save both of the
above extracted files into the same folder then run
sysclean in safe mode

If you have problems with this part then just try TSC
Trends Damage clean up tool :

http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/tsc/tsc.zip

Download CWShredder
--------------------
http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/online-
tools/cwshredder.exe

Download Ccleaner
------------------
http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp

Download and install, but do not run it yet.

Then reboot into safe mode (Reboot and keep tapping F8
then choose safe mode from the list)

Run Sysclean then Ewido & Cwshredder/MSAS then finish
with Ccleaner to remove all temp files

If you still have problems try some online scanners when
you are reboot back in normal mode

Online Scanners:

Bitdefender
-----------

kaspersky
----------

Trojan Scan
-----------
http://www.trojanscan.com/

Panda activescan

Rav AV

Symantecs Security check

Trend Micro

Free Antivirus :

AVG
----
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

Free Firewall

ZoneAlarm
----------

If this doesnt clear the problems you are best using
Hijack This to show what the infection is then it will be
easier to repair any damage thats been caused.

http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe

Do NOT put HijackThis in the Temp folders by just running
the file save it to desktop or c:drive. Its advised you
do this because HijackThis creates a backup folder once
you do some fixes. Now run HijackThis.exe and click on
System scan and save the logfile . This should take a few
seconds. Now click on Save Log and name it hijackthis.log

You can then post that on support forums to receive more
help in removing any nasties ;)

All the best

Andy

Not that you need anymore but here's another great
Antivirus offer from Microsoft & Computer Associates for
a 1 year free trial:

I use this on one of my machines and it works great so if
you need a free AV this may help :

page=PYPCtrialPage_MSsite&client=ComputerAssociates&sid=55

Then there's Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool :

px

It will have to be a very good virus to not be killed by
all this ;)
