Restore problems

Need help fixing restore points, can't go back to a good restore point, tried several. This all occured after trying to install NIS 2004. This changed my network and internet connections, so I uninstalled the software, but still had no internet connection or network connectionto the server and printers. Tried several restore points to fix this but now can't get any points to restore. Should I reinstall XP Pro over top of its self? Will that fix the defaults without losing my other software?

Be sure to read the points at the bottom to make sure you don't lose any
personal settings.
