Restore problems

I made a full backup and ASR disk of a laptop to our
network prior to replacing the hard drive. I put the new
hard drive in and started restore but restore will not
access the network to get to the backup files. The file
is 2gb so I can't burn it to a cd and winzip won't even
think about zipping it. So now what do I do?

Brian,
what method did you choose for the backup? I guess you
didnot use an disk imaging application. How do you
restore? What OS are you running?
If you installed a fresh OS to your laptop with the
minimal stuff on it, plus the network drivers, you would
be able to access your backup files. Depending on the
backup/restore solution used, you can restore all your
stuff on the fresh install. Of course, since you are
restoring on a running system, it won't be able to
overwrite the system stuff, meaning most of your
applications will not run.

In cases, where you need a backup because of harddisk
change, i would recommend a disk imaging app., like
symantec ghost!
