My laptop running XP home has become very slow. I have run anti-virus ,
etc. and not found the problem. I have had the computer about a year
and used to be able to go back to earlier restore points but now can
only go back about 60 days. Hard drive is 40GB with 32GB free and
restore area is set to maximum. Why can't i go back farther? Also, is
there a default restore point that will take me back to the as received
from factory state?

Thanks

Ron

Hi,

System Restore only can occupy just so much space and only holds just so
many restore points. The max it can use is 12% of the drive space, and the
number of points depends on the size of each point. To go back to "factory
state", you would use the system recovery tools provided by the manfacturer
(sometimes on CD, sometimes on the hard drive in a hidden partition), or use
a regular WinXP CD to do a clean installation. Be aware that using these
tools can result in the loss of all data currently on the drive.
