Please explain yourself better - what do you mean by "get more restore
points"? Are you meaning that the calendar won't go back as far as you want?
Nothing on your system is curtailed by not registering as it's entirely
voluntary. The number of restore points available are determined by three
criteria...

1) The amount of hard drive space available. In order for a point to be
created, there must be *at least* 200MB free on the target drive.

2) The amout of space you have allocated to system restore - if you've
only allocated 5% then you're not going to have as much space to play with.

3) The amount of activity - if you're forever installing and/or
uninstalling applications then the space will fill up quicker and older
points will be deleted quicker.

4) Points are only kept for between one and three weeks - older points
are deleted to make way for new ones.

If this isn't what you meant, please post back with further clarification.

Some of my software isn't working properly. And usually
System restore makes everything OK. I tried it last night,
but to no avail. So I was trying to undo that last
restore, and try restoring it again. When I open certain
programs, the laptop freezes, including some of the SONY
software I got with it. WHat do I do?

System Restore does exactly what the name says. It restores system files. It
won't restore your software applications.
