Restore points deleted daily

I'm losing all restore points each day. It appears that when I start System
Restore, a new System Checkpoint is created at that time, and all previous
ones are gone. I've tried all the suggestions on Bert Kinney's site,
including reinstalling SR, same problem. When I run Event Viewer, there are
entries for SR creating restore points each day, no errors. However, I can't
access the properties of any events in Event Viewer (could this be related?);
double-clicking on an entry does nothing, and right-clicking and selecting
Properties brings up a window that says "There are no properties available
for this event" or words to that effect.

I'm able to create numerous restore points, and restore to any of them.
However, the next day the same problem reoccurs. I'd appreciate any help or
suggestions that anyone might have; thanks in advance.

Did you see this page also?

See if one of these solutions work.

Hi Bert:

Thanks for replying. Yep, I've tried all the things you've suggested and
still have the same problems. I've also tried the suggestions you linked to
for the Event Viewer, and it's still the same too. Anything else you can
think of?

Thanks again.

Hi,

The missing restore point page has all of the causes of missing restore
points that I know of, to date.

So let clear all of the Event Logs the info in the following link.
http://snipurl.com/the3
Reboot the system and keep record of all "sr" and "srservice" logs under
System, as described on this page.
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/source.html

You will also want to confirm that the system is free of infections.

Thanks again, Bert. I've tried running all of the antivirus, spyware and
adware removal tools you recommended, including manually running MS Malicious
Software Removal Tool, no problems reported. I've tried clearing all of the
Event Logs and rebooting, symptoms are the same: the event log initially
shows no occurrences of SR entries, until I start up System Restore, then it
appears that a System Checkpoint is created at exactly the time I start it,
with all previous restore points gone. Double-clicking on an entry in the
Event Viewer does nothing (except that the very first time I double-click on
one, it appears to very very briefly open a window for only a flash and then
it disappears, like the other guy was describing in the link you recommended;
after that, double-clicking on an entry does nothing, and right-clicking and
selecting Properties opens a window which indicates that "No Properties are
available for this entry").

Very wierd, huh? These are the only 2 problems I've noticed with the OS, and
I can't think of any software installs or any other events which coincide
with the onset of these symptoms. Let me know if there's anything else you
can think of to try, and thanks again for your help.

Good, at least infection should be ruled out. The only other option in
this area would be to run hijack this.

When you say "start up System Restore", are you referring to launching
the SR wizard via the Start Menu?

Are there any Norton app installed, or Zone Alarm?

The next step would be to perform a clean boot to rule out application
that may be interfering with SR.
