Restore points and deleting programs ?

hi all,

This question comes up because I've "removed" programs using Windows
Add/Remove option, and while the program no longer shows in the
Add/Remove list. the shortcuts I have added or moved on my start menu
will still open up the program after it has supposedly be removed..

Would this have anything to do with the restore feature of XP? Have I
circumvented it by going in to windows explorer and manually removing
those program folders?

Hi,

Certain system programs cannot actually be removed. All the Add & Remove
applet does is remove mention of it - Internet Explorer is one good example
of this. If the application in question comes from a third-party, you should
refer to their support for proper removal steps.

And, no, this has nothing to do with System Restore.

okay, thanks Rick,

the program in question was Nero, but this has happened with other 3rd
party programs also.. in win98 when you removed something it was
actually removed, doesn't seem to be the case with XP though. ;-(

I'm learning little by little.. this old fossil of a brain has trouble
sometimes with new information, takes a while to get those new
pathways burned in. ;-)

First eliminate any scumware.

Hi,

It means the program's uninstall routine was incomplete - you should contact
the program vendor with this issue. This may be especially true if it was
installed under multiple profiles.

thanksf or the info, the only program I didn't already have was the
LSPFIX, I run adaware and spybot after every internet session, the
LSPFIX found 4 entries, but removed none of them, so I assume they are
suppose to be there.

I don't do much peer to peer stuff, so I've remained pretty clean for
a long time.. I also updated and ran my CWShredder, and it found
nothing either.

I'm not sure what this had to do with 3rd party programs not being
removed when using the Add/Remove applet in XP, but my system is clean
of malware/spyware. :-)
