Restore Point

Am just getting my feet wet with WinXP and thought I would create a Restore
Point. Went into Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.
Followed the directions... however, after telling it to create a restore
point (which I named), the program froze. Cont, Alt, Delete showed that it
was "not responding". This happens every time I try to create Restore
Point. Any ideas?
 
When setting be detailed and use nos as xp would display them,also se
time to clock in R.lower corner,set as:05/09/2004 @ 5:35 P.M
If you still have a problem,R.click my computer,properties,system restore
uncheck the box,close out,restart computer.Then back on desktop,turn on restore
create a restore point to that exact date and time.

Andrew - I've called you an eejit before, but you obviously don't know what
it means, or you can't read. It means you are an IDIOT. I've yet to read a
post from you that actually helps anyone. As I seem to have told you on
countless occasions - QUIT POSTING UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A CLUE WHAT
YOU'RE ON ABOUT!

How on earth is that going to help the OP when he cannot create a restore
point in the first place?!

As I've said before, the only reason I've not killfiled you is because I
don't want someone to follow your 'advice' and end up with a doorstop.
Because that's precisely what will happen if they follow some of your more
dangerous 'advice'.
 
Hi Joyce,

Once System Restore goes bad, the only thing you can do is stop it and
restart it. Start/run services.msc, locate the SR service and doubleclick
it. Click the stop button, then set the startup type dropdown to disabled.
Click apply/ok, then reboot.

Then, check the "System Volume Information folder" on each drive (you may
need to set folder options/view tab to see hidden and system folders for
this) and delete any contents. Reverse the steps to restart it.

Be forewarned that doing this removes all existing restore points, but it
doesn't really matter as they weren't working anyways.

If this does not help, follow these steps to reinstall System Restore:

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the sr.inf file, right-click it and choose
install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).
