Restore Discs for XP

Mike

I have just recieved a new PC with XP loaded. My last PC
had restore discs in case of complete failure. These I
used to restore the XP system as originally setup before
handing on to my brother. Of course all the data on the
PC was over-written but this was acceptable as I wanted
to hand the PC on without any of my old data in place.
Now what I want to know is before I do anything on this
machine how can I use the machine to create a restore
CD.

I know XP has a restore option but this only restores the
system back to an original point in time and what I want
is an external restore (to roiginal format) CD for this
machine.

Contact the maker of the system. Manufactuer's will either
send you discs or place a hidden partition with the
restore information on.

Yes the manufacturer can supply the discs, but they will
charge for this service. Since I have the machine with
the new operating system my interest was to do this for
free.

That is not a Windows capability.
That is a feature as to the way the manufacturer has it set up.
AFAIK, HP can make one set of Restore CDs, but you need to check the
manual and/or contact the manufacturer for details.

Some vendors offer the Restore CDs free if ordered within 30 days or so
of the purchase.

I've tried, didn't want to pay the 15 bucks 2 years ago
to H/P.The closest thing you can do is a destructive
restore(resets back to new, formats and restores original
condition, like when you first turned it on)My H/P has the
system restore on a partition.I've had to use it a couple
times due to virus's and such.I know what your asking,I
would like to create one for myself, but the answer is
no.Think it has something to do with piracy,MS must give
the manufacter a discount for doing it that way.Still
looking,for 2 years.If you need to do a destructive
restore, make sure you have any patches that you need,H/P
has one that's needed.I think you pump the F10 key at
start up system restore comes up,select destructive
restore takes about an hour or so.resets it like
new, loosing all data.I would love to have a disc because
I've upgraded to a 120 gig HD from the 30 it came
with, would like to format and use the 30 as a second
drive,but can't because i need to keep it as a backup.I
don't think I sould pay shipping and handleing on
something I own the rights to.
