"Restore CD" problems: can you help?

I have a T2080 from e-machines with Windows XP. My restore CD does not work
properly. This is what happened:

Recently, my screen turned blue with gibberish everywhere. I tried doing a
"safe mode" so that I could get into Windows, and look into this further. I
was given several choices ... safe mode ... restore to previous setting and
so forth. Each of these options would load Windows just fine, but a few
seconds later I would get a message that indicated some major corruption. I
don't remember what action it suggested I'd take, but I was unable to do
ANYTHING since I could not get a prompt. Ever. This is when I decided to
use the restore CD.

Now Windows is up and running, but I get the following problems:

(1) I am trying to load my wireless internet software, but every time I
select "setup" nothing happens. As if it can't read from that drive. Even
though the same drive was used successfully for the restore CD.

(2) I tried using Media Player, just for kicks. It tells me that there are
files missing, and it can't operate it.

(3) The computer recognizes the presence of a peripheral, and it tries to
load the software, but at some point it tells me that it can't do that
because a file is missing. (I don't remember which.)

(4) Some of the original applications, that presumably should be loaded
through the restore CD, are simply not there.

It looks like the restore CD is not doing its job, or I have a bigger
problem that is beyond the ability of the restore CD to fix. My computer is
essentially inoperable.

Can you help?

Thanks.

If can you can find out which files it claims are not
there, it might help to diagnose your problem. Also when
you go to the start up menu, the is usually an option
for "Last Known Good Configuration" this will take the
computer back to a restore point that XP does
automatically to try to prevent crashes.

What kind of wireless internet software are you trying to
load? You might want to uninstall anything that you put
on the system for the wireless internet software and
start all over again. I know that wireless systems ask
that the user NOT turn on the router untill the software
specifically asks it to. This may be where you problem
enlies if you do have one of this types of routers.

Anyway more information about your errors will allow me
to further help you out.

I have not been able to replicate this issue. But I will keep trying and
let you know.

I was given this and other options *before* I loaded the restore CD. Now I
don't get these options. Anytime I selected "Last Known Good Configuration"
or "Safe Mode" and a few other that I do not remember, it attempted to get
the operating system up and running. However, eventually it would present
me with a screen and a long-winded message how the computer may have some
internal corruption, blah blah blah, and that I should do some sort of
system restore. Of course, I couldn't because I never was able to get
Windows. I tried to employ a few DOS commands, but for some reason it would
not switch me from the A: drive to my hard drive. For this reason I decided
to just load the restore CD. Does this make sense?

I am installing Linksys. However, the router is already installed in
another computer. On this troubled computer I am trying to connect it
remotely to the main computer. Which is what used to have. Now, I am
merely trying to reload all the applications that I lost as a result of the
restore process. I can try turning off the router - but I doubt that this
is the case. I have loaded similar software, successfully, on other
computers and the router was never turned off.
