I'm using Windows XP. Recently one of my RAID 0 drives on my desktop PC went
out, and fortunately I had just backed it up. While I was waiting for new
drives for the desktop, I tried to restore some files in the backed up My
Documents folder to my laptop. The problem is that the My Documents folder
on the desktop is private--I believe it got that way because I use a password
to log onto Windows. Therefore, when I tried to access the backed up files
from the laptop, I get a message "...My Documents is not accessible. Access
is denied."
(Inicidentally, I'm using Norton Save & Restore, but I don't think the
specific backup
program matters).
This is troubling. Now that I have new drives in the desktop, I have
successfully restored everything from the backup and I can access the My
Documents folder since it's on the same computer. But if my computer got
smoked (and the motherboard went out), and I had to restore My Documents to a
different PC, I'd be locked out of the files.
Since I have the password that was used to lock the folder, is there a way
from a different PC to get accessed to the locked folder?
