I have files saved on Zip Disk that were created using
Windows 98 backup (.qic). Since Windows 2000 does not
support this file type, is there a utility that could
restore it? Am I faced with going to Kinkos and restoring
on a Windows 98 computer?

Hi Rich,

You will not be able to restore it using the backup tool in Windows 2000
(ntbackup.exe) since it uses a different format for files than the backup tool in
Windows 95/98. For more information, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article:

KB155979 - Windows NT/2000 Backup Does Not Recognize Windows 95/98 Backup Tapes
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=155979

If the Resolution to restore the data using a computer running Windows 95/98 is not
an option there are 3rd party software programs that you can install on Win2000 to
restore .QIC files. One such software mentioned by some people posting to the
microsoft.public.win2000.* newsgroups is Stomp's Backup MyPC (License: Free to try
for 30 days; $69.00 to buy). Please carefully read the BackUp MyPC - Download_com
web page, and CNET User Opinions, before deciding whether or not to use this
software. For instance, if you read carefully you will see that it does not include
an uninstaller.
