Conversely, delete files completely.

Restore files which are deleted from the recycle bin or deleted while
holding down the Shift key by mistake.
Conversely, this program has another function that makes it almost
impossible to restore all deleted files.
You can use it after deletion of confidential documents, embarrassing
files and so on.

You don't have to install it, so it doesn't leave any garbage in the
PC.
(You can also run it from a floppy disk.)

You have to know where to look. . . ;)

Restoration (PW 2003)

it looks absolutely excellent. First
impressions are that it substantially better than some of the similar
buyware apps.

The good thing is that you can use it without installing it.

After testing it on two computers, I found, however, that it was less
effective in recovering files than Drive Rescue. But Drive Rescue should
be preinstalled before the search, though.
Drive Rescue is no longer developed as freeware, but the last edition can
be found on Pricelessware, fortunately.

I just noticed that Handy Recovery is now payware. But, they say
"created a commercial version. At the same time the lite unrestricted
version stays available online for download."

Try the free version. You need several tools for recovering deleted
files and Restoration is a good one but won't see USB drives. Handy
Recovery does. Plus, once it is installed you can copy all the files
to a USB drive and run from there.

The free version is at

I just gave Restoration a try at restoring something. I deleted a file
called Directcable.doc, then deleted it from the recycling bin. Then I ran
Restoration, telling it to look for files called Direct on C:\, but it found
no such files. So I continued with the search vacant clusters option, which
took a long time and still found nothing. So I ran a search using the full
file name of Directcable.doc, and it still found no such files. So I wasn't
too impressed . . .

HandyRecovery worked great for me. Thanks for the link to the freeware
version, Joe.

Hello,
I've not come across this before;

it was posted here in this NG yesterday. I just wanted to mail
this URL to myself from work. It's usually not my style to post
nothing more than an URL. This post was only a little accident,
sorry about that.

Regards,
Thorsten

Glad it helped you. I keep Drive Rescue, Handy Recovery, and
Restoration on a USB drive. I've found that it's impossible to predict
which tool works best in a given situation. You really need several
tools to try. I think all 3 of these should be pricelessware.
