I don't have VISTA, I have Windows XP 2003 and previously installed Service
pack 3 with no problems. Yesterday I went to MS updates and installed
imediate updates reccomended and had no problems after restart untill two
hours latter when it froze and said it Windows ran into a problem and had to
shut down. Then I got the endless restart loop. Help.

restart loops are not
uncommon and can
usually be corrected
with the following
method:

boot up with a winxp
cd and select the
repair option.

this will initiate the
recovery console and
permit you to log into
the disk system.

at the disk prompt run
the following commands>:

chkdsk
fixboot
fixmbr

then "exit", remove
cd and re try your
boot.

There's a trick that I find can help with cycling restarts like this. To
use it, you need either a boot CD that allow access to the root of the C
drive or simply attach the C drive to another system.

Once that's done, look in the root for the file "pagefile.sys", and delete
it. You can do the same with "hiberfil.sys". EMpty the wastebasket, put
the drive back in place and reboot. The initial restart may be slow and
you may need to power off and on again.

This has allowed me to restart a number of otherwise inaccessible systems,
and it takes perhaps five minutes.

Try rebooting, hit F8, and in the startup menu select "last known good
configuration".

From now on, NEVER install any hardware updates from the Microsoft
Windows updates site. If anything, use it as a prompt to go to the
manufacturer's own web site and check if there is an update appropriate
for YOUR hardware (rather than what Microsoft thought you had).
However, if your hardware is working, why would you update the drivers
which can introduce new bugs or incompatibilities?
