how on windows xp can anybody help

Hi Lozoyag,

You'll need to create a Startup Disc

1.. Insert a floppy disk into your computer's floppy drive.
2.. Open MyComputer, and then click the floppy disk drive to select it.
3.. On the File menu, point to the name of the floppy drive, and then
click Format.
4.. Under Format options, click Create an MS-DOS Startup disk.
5.. Click Start.
Reboot with the floopy in the drive.

WARNING!!! The startup disk created from within Windows XP will NOT
allow you to access the CD drive, or access your HD if it is formatted
as NTFS.

To obtain an MSDOS Startup disk which will allow access to the CD drive,
go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

There is no MS-DOS in XP, or any other NT OS.

What makes you think I want to use my CD Drive in DOS
mode???

Believe you warning is appropriate, whether or not its appropriate for the
poster. Reason: there may be others reading and heeding advice here.

Greetings --

There is no way to reboot a WinXP PC into Real Mode DOS unless
you've set up a dual-boot system. The WinNT family of graphical
operating systems, of which WinXP is the latest generation, have never
used or included MS-DOS. The closest they have is the Command Prompt
window.

WinXP, like its predecessors WinNT & Win2K, is a pure 32-bit GUI
OS, and does not include or "ride upon" any version of DOS, as did
Win3.x & Win9x/Me. WinXP does include a command-line emulator for
those times when GUI applets are unnecessary/redundant, but it cannot
be started in "DOS mode."

If you already knew the answer, why'd you ask the question?

When booting the computer, press F8 before the "Windows Loading..."
screen starts. Use the arrows to select "MS-DOS Prompt Mode"

No need to create a start disk for this...

Dan

There is no such option on the start up screen menu. The nearest item is the
"Safe mode with command prompt" which is the same emulator that is available
in the XP GUI.
