Hi all,

I have a P3 500 with 512 meg of ram. I'm currently running win 2k and the os
has come to a grinding halt. It's probably virus's as Norton has been
detecting and deleting quite a few lately.

I have a copy of xp professional that my pal doesn't use as he switched to
linux.

I'm wondering:

a) how much HD space does XP prof take.
b) will XP run at par or faster with my hardware setup
c) Do you guys recommend XP over Win 2k.

I have heard a few different opinions and I would like to get some feed back
before proceeding.

thanks in advance.

Eric

XP takes about 1.2 Gb of HDD just for the OS.
XP will probably run slower on your pc.
XP 2000 that has been brushed and polished. Nice to use.

Around 1.5GB.

Around the same.

I would certainly recommend XP over any 9X version. And if you
were asking whether to buy and install 2000 or XP, the answer
would be easy for me--XP, which is essentially just a newer,
slightly better version of 2000. If you owned 2000 and had to buy
XP, it would be a tough call; you might not decide that XP was
worth the extra money.

But if you already own a copy of XP, yes, I'd install it in
preference to 2000.

In addition to what's already been posted, if your system has come to a
grinding halt, you need to fix this or find the source of the issue,
especially if you suspect a virus. Moving on, won't solve your problems and
might make them worse.

If you have Win2k, there's not a whole lot of reason to move to XP.
