I'm unable to respond to your responses. Is there a newsgroup that shows me
how to respond to newsgroups?? I feel really dumb. I used to do it all the
time, but it won't work here.

Do you have Outlook Express?

If so, this a good a way as any to respond. I use it all the time. I tried
newsreaders, but *they* seemed like too much trouble to me

Tools|Accounts|News|Add

The news server is msnews.microsoft.com

Just FYI, Outlook Express *is* a newsreader. :-)

Yeah, OK

I got this problem some time ago when I was looking for a way to read
certain newsgroups that weren't available from msnews. I was advised to use
some other newsreaders, but I didn't want to have to switch to another
program just to read them, so in the end I didn't bother.

But after that, what stuck in my mind was:
"There is OE and there are newsreaders"
and not
"There is OE and there are other newsreaders"

(Hangs head in shame)
 
I didn't need to do anything to anyone's behind to post here, just set up a
news account using the Microsoft server.

Just now figured it all out, outlook express had gotten corupted by outlook
(old office 97 version), preventing response. I went thru 2 iterations of
removing outlook completely, then resetting outlook express as default, now
workd great.

Still haven't figured out how to password protect one page yet!!
