I have several calendars set up in exchange 2003 to be scheduled as
resources. My problem is that when someone cancels a meeting it does not get
deleted from the calendar. This leaves that time slot full until I (the
admin) have to go in and delete it. Is there a setting I am missing? I need
this system to be completely autonomous. Thank you.

What method did you use to set up the resource automation?
What version of Outlook are your clients using?
Are your clients set up with Cache Mode?
Do your client use Delegation much?

I created a user in AD called conf1, logged on the account in Windows,
opened the users mailbox and configured the calendar's resource scheduling
options.

and how to book it correctly.

However, If you use Exchange Server I would suggest the use
of the AutoAccept Agent. We use this with great success.
