Resolving search capabilities

Up until a week ago using the search component on our site worked perfectly.
You were able to get accurate results searching by text, term, sku number,
price etc... Now you can only get minor results at best. Most of the time
you get the annoying returned message 'No documents found ....'.

Recalculating Hyperlinks does nothing to resolve the problem.

Can anyone explain or understand this situation. If so, can you please point
me in the direction to resolve this matter.

Where is the index file located that is used when a search is performed?

Is there something our host can resolve? Dellhosting claims:

"Your search form is working just fine. ... Your search results
are coming up by categories but not by the individual item. This is a
result of how your key word index is setup. You will need consult Front
Page documentation for further assistance with this matter."


Needing someone to point us in the right direction without having to call
Microsoft for the solution.

Is your site hosted on Unix/Linux or Windows IIS with Index Server?
