Hi All

I have router configured as DHCP. All machines are ok but one of my notebook
cannot resolve name. When I am trying to ping any machine its not pinging
and when I am pinging with IP address its pinging.

I dont know whats the problem. Will be very thankfull if some one advise me
regarding this........

Does the network use DNS for name resolution? If so check the TCP/IP
properties on the notebook to see whether it's DNS configuration is
different from other machines from which you are able to ping with names.
(Select the properties of a LAN, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and
click on properties-check to see that the DNS configuration is same as that
of other machines)

If your network uses WINS, then once again check whether the WINS server
address is configured properly. (Select the properties of a LAN, click on
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on properties and then on advanced and
check the settings in WINS tab)

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

As I mentioned earlier we are using router as DHCP for all TCP/IP
informations like DNS, Gateway and all machines these are same including the
notebook which is not pinging.....

On all machines obtain an IP address automaticly. so we can configure DNS or
WINS Server..

I have router configured as DHCP.

DHCP has nothing to do with name resolution.
All machines are ok but one of my notebook
cannot resolve name. When I am trying to ping any machine its not pinging
and when I am pinging with IP address its pinging.

That's TCP/IP name resolution not working.

You don't have a proper DNS/WINS config and aren't using HOSTS/LMHOSTS
for name resolution. Configure your notebook's DNS setting properly
or fix it in the DHCP if your router's DHCP will also provide the DNS
info.
