Resolve IE Just-In-Time- Debugger Exploit?

I've scanned this machine with McAfee VirusScan Online which
reports the machine is clean but whenever I open IE 6 the
Just-In-Time Debugger dialog opens and reappears every attempt
to dismiss.

I've been to windowsupdate and selected a critical update that seemed
to be related to this debugger issue but the download simply stalls after I
accept the initial download dialog.

It also hangs when trying the cumulative update. It seems the open
debugger dialog may be a problem in this regard but I have not idea
how to dismiss it. I've even modified the registry key for the debugger.

I hope somebody can help talk me through this...
 
Resolved.
Once I actually decided to try to open the file in the debugger I discovered
the problem was buggy JavaScript in scumware that made its way onto
the machine.
