Dear all,
after having bought a new 1280x1024 TFT display, my
onboard SIS graphics lost previously available resolutions
1280x1024 and 1600x1200. It only supports 1024x768, which
is a pain, as I just bought the higher resolution TFT.
I would deeply appreciate your help!
OS: Win2000 Advanced Server SP4
Elitegroup K7SOM+ with Athlon XP 1700+ running at 133MHz.
1 GB of PC266 memory. Version Motherboard unknown, not
printed on board itself.
AMI BIOS 10/29/2002S
Video BIOS 12/13/20
Video Adapter Device: SiS 650_651_M650_M652_740
BIOS String: 1.05.00
Chip Type: SiS 740 Rev 00a
DAC Type: Internal
Installed Drivers SiSGRV (6.14.10.3540)
Memory Size: 64 MB
The TFT display has been working initially at 1280x1024,
but I installed a DVD-R/RW+ at the same time. My raid
array decided to report a lost device due to SMART alerts,
and I updated the driver of my Ultra-ATA/133 Raid array
(SIL0680).
I believe the above to be just coincidents.
While updating the driver for the RAID array, I also
updated the Graphics Driver from the Windows Update Page
(will not do again!). The version I updated to was SiS
650_651_M650_M652_740, version 6.14.10.3540.
After this, the display adapter just supports 1024x768
resolution.
I have tried to deinstall the driver, reboot the machine,
and install any of the drivers from SIS download support
page. I've tried 650 v2.21, 650 v2.19. The problem remains
unchanged. The only improvement (or change, rather) was
that once I was able to set resolution to 1280x768, but I
lost that in the search of 1280x1024 and was not able to
recreate the same configuration.
I have also contacted Elitegroup, who finally recommended
on re-installing Windows 2000 from scratch, as they
believe the problem to be caused by some settings in the
registry which are not properly deleted when deinstalling
the 6.14.10.3540 driver, but affecting previous versions
of the driver nonetheless.
As this is a development machine with some tons of
software installed, I would prefer to fix the problem
without reinstalling Win.
Thanks in advance for your time and your recommendations.
Kindest Regards
Steve
