Resolution problem

Hi!

I have a problem with resoution. Natively it is set to 1440 x 900, but
somehow it changes itself to 1024 x 768. At first I thought that changing the
resolution in display manager would help but then I found that there wasn't
such a resolution to choose (!), but there had been before! So I restarted my
laptop and the logon page was still in the smaller res but after logging in
everything came back to normal. For a while, unfortunately! I don't know what
I could do else? I have tried display manager, checking if there were any
updates for my graphic card and recently updated windows. I'm running a
toshiba laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 card and windows vista home
premium. Any advice will be priceless (i'm desperate). Cheers

Well, I tried that. All went smooth and everything seemed to be alright but
as soon as the screensaver started to run the resolution decreased again. I
suppose the driver is not a solution. However I can't think of anything else
that could cause such a problem. I reckon that it is a windows based problem
because it never happens when I don't let the screensaver to run.

It doesn't make any difference if I set a screen saver that was built into
windows or one of a third-party. I have even tried one that came with the new
driver. I haven't run any programs that decrease the resolution for their own
purposes recently nor played games which demand such a decrease. I haven't
heard of this kind of a problem either and I've been working on many
different systems, various configurations etc. Usually my knowledge was
enough to solve most problems... Alas, I'm helpless this time. I'll try to
disable the screen saver for a while and see what will happen. If it doesn't
work the only thing I could do is reinstall windows, I'm afraid :(.

The screen saver has been disabled. But sadly it turns out it didn't solve
the problem. Whenever sth disrupts windows, sth like hibernation, sleep mode
etc. the resolution decreases again. I set windows not to hibernate when I
close the laptop
cover but it persists to influence the resolution. I have scanned the
computer with an antivirus (norton), however it didn't help. Sth went wrong
but I can't put a finger on it... The Vista I have is a preinstalled version.
Nevertheless, I will consider xp. Hans, thank u for help:) Cheers
