Resizing Desktop Icons only

Hi,

can anyone answer this( MS or Community member?)

Is there a way to Resize the Desktop Icons only instead
of causing all other icons throughout the WindowsXP
system?

I can not seem to find a way to do it, because if you
select 'use large icons' it effects the whole theme, and
makes browsing through multiple file folders a pain in
the normal icon view.

And on a desktop resolution of 1280x1024 or 960, having
small icons on the desktop is kind of not very good on
the eyes, let alone large icons in folders look very
horrific with small text.

I know you can customize the text and icon sizes for the
whole system, but I only want to do the desktop....

Any help would be appreiated, and please email me since
the Newsgroup thing does not inform me if there is a
reply to my topics...

Thanks,
Ken

right click on your desktop/properties/appearance/advance and set the size
for the icons in the drop down menu.

If I'm remembering this correctly, you can resize the desktop icons
via control panel \ display \ appearance \ advanced
In the dropdown list, choose icons.

Sorry, but you should be able to find your way back.

Kenneth G.;
I would not tell you, even if I knew the answer. You sound as if you
have very few manners. Someone tries to help you, out of the kindness of
their heart and you snap at them. Just my opinion.

Im sorry but its my understanding that people have bad
habit posting with out reading nor looking to notice

desktop/properties/appearance/advance and set the size
for the icons in the drop down menu does the whole
freaking system NOT JUST THE DESKTOP WHICH WAS THE
ORIGINAL QUESTION, BUT APPARENTLLY NO ONE READ NOR
UNDERSTOOD THIS....try it for yourself and you will see
it do it to the whole system, instead of just the desktop
icons.

Huge Icons across system= horrible visual

Small Icons on desktop at higher resolutions(anything
above 1152x864)=bad visuals

Large Icons for Desktop only, with regular small icons in
system folders= good visual

that was the question, could you do so?...but no everyone
points to the simple WRONG answer of the Advanced tab,
thing is the only way they would show up with the Large
Icons setting is in Tile view which is unbearable with
large amounts of files in file folders, and the List
setting makes clicking the wrong file by chance even more
so.....So you should be able to understand my pissed
attitude when people point out the WRONG answer.

Ken;
Not everyone here is an expert. I am certainly not. I started in these
newsgroups looking for an answer to my own question and realized that I
could answer other people's questions. I have certainly given and received
plenty of incorrect answers. Or answers that did not seem to apply to the
questions.
I can understand you being upset. You have to take the good with the
bad. People have a bad habit of engaging mouth before brain is in gear,
also. Same here, except fingers instead of mouth.
Unfortunately, after all this rambling, I do not have an answer for your
question.

The desktop is a folder window sized so the border is outside the viewable
area of the monitor. It also has No scroll bars and transparent background
set.

David,

If it's a folder window, is there any way of 'telling' the desktop to display tiles or thumbnails
instead of icons?

Keith

You ask me about computers 5 minutes bedfore the Rugby League semi finals
kick-off. Can't believe it. What are you? - a netballer.

I suspect thatr one would be forever fighting with explorer.exe. But it's
the only folder whose settings roam. See the reg but Roam rather than
noroam. Apart from that sending a windows message to the window may do the
trick.

As soon as the Grand Final is out of the way we start the Rugby Union world
cup in October.

Sorry, wasn't aware this was poor timing -- not a sports fan of any sort.

I did try changing the 'mode' value from 1(icons) to 6(tiles) under this key:
'HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desktop' and then killed & restarted explorer. No
luck.

Figured if anyone knew how it would be you.
