Resize a partition

I have a little problem...
I'm trying to resize my main partition where Vista is installed. I'm trying
to enlarge it. But there is a problem, of course...
Here is what the partition table looks like:

Partition 1 NTFS Primary (Vista partition)
Partition 2 NTFS Primary
Extended Partition
Partition 3 NTFS Logical
Free space
Partition 4 NTFS Logical

Of course, I want that free space for the main partition, but HOW?! Vista's
partition manager won't do it. The only software I know that CAN do it is
PartitionMagic, which doesn't work under Vista (or Windows says it has
compability problems).

Any advice other than use XP would be appreciated.

Boot from the PartitionMagic CD-ROM and it will run in some sort of DOS and
allow you to use most of the features without booting into Windows.

You have to be careful with Partition Magic, at least my version (8.0).
Whenever I try to use it on a Vista formatted partition, I get an error
about something being too short and wants to correct it. This would seem to
be a problem to me!

In other words, I should do a backup of the partition before running
PartitionMagic, then.

Hmmm...

I have used PM 8.0 in XP (obviously) and in DOS to resize/move/delete/format
Vista partitions since Build 5384 with nary a hitch. Never tried installing
it to Vista because of the known compatibility issues.
