I have a laptop that will not correctly install any
network adapters. It also will not let me create any
network connections. Is there any way to reset the entire
networking portion of Windows XP back to defaults?

That did not fix it. I do have my dialup connections back
but they don't work. They dial fine but bomb out when it
checks the username & password. It says "Error 50 The
request is not supported". My network cards fail to
install. Even if I install a totally different PCMCIA
network adapter. It states "Cannot install this
hardware The system cannot find the file specified"
What file is it looking for? I have reinstalled the
drivers that I downloaded from the manufacturer.

Why don't you try a system restore to a point to where it was working
properly. That worked for me.

My system can't find any restore points prior to today.
Restore has been setup on the PC. Do you know where I can
find the files?

Is this a freshly installed copy of XP?

Are you saying you don't have any restore points even going to 2 weeks or
further back?
I'm sorry but I don't know where the restore files are kept.

None. I try to click on the back arrow on the restore
calendar & it won't go anywhere. Do you know of any
registry utilities out there that might help?

You will need to unintsall everything in the Network Adapters screen. Well,
in XP I am not sure where to find it, but what you could do is run the
Network Setup Wizard and I believe there is an option to set your computer
to not be on a network at all. Good luck.
