I foolishly selected the wrong "buttons" in a file
download dialog box and now I don't know how to back
track and undo my errors. The dialog box no longer
appears and the files now open, instead of saving to my
computer. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance for
your kindness.

relivent file type -> advanced -> confirm open after
download

Yes. You can change the setting back using Windows Explorer. Open Windows Explorer and select Tools, Folder Options and go to the File Types tab. Find and select the file type or extension that you want to modify in the list of registered file types and click the Advanced button. An "Edit File Type" dialog will appear. On that screen put a check in the box next to the line that reads "Confirm open after download." Click Apply to save your changes and then OK to dismiss the dialog. Click OK again to close the Folder Options window. Now when you download a file of that type you will be prompted to either open or save the file.
