Using Frontpage 2002. I reset the counter in my page because I recreated
the page and wanted to reflect the correct number of hits. I saved and
republished, but it's not showing the number I entered.

Any ideas? Diana

Open your "live" site using FrontPage,
reset the count on the "live" page, save
the changes and the correct count should
show.

Diana,
The counter file doesn't necessarily get published in order to avoid
accidentally saving a wrong counter file. What you can do is open your
hosted web directly using the File | Open Web function and use the URL you
normally publish to. Then find the counter file, it should be in the private
directory or therabouts and it will have the exact same name as the web page
that the hit counter is included in except it will end in .cnt (such as
default.cnt). There you can change the actual counter data, just remember to
keep the same number of counter positions.

Hope this helps,

Open the site on the remote server directly in FP, then open the _private
folder and locate the pagename.htm.cnt file, right click open in Notepad
(text editor) and change the number, however do not change the number of
digits.

Mark ... do I use Frontpage to do this. File | Open Web function isn't an
option. I'm missing some simple step. When I try to open the file in
"_private" (as Thomas suggests) ... it says it isn't a file. Diana

Ok, I figured it out .... and was able to open in notepad and changed the
number of digits - there were too many digits. (by the way ... it had the
correct number in that file). However, it's still not being reflected in
the newly published file. I'm miffed.

I'm not sure what you mean by opening the "live" page. This is probably
what the other responder meant, but I'm not sure how to do that. Sorry.

Open your "live" site using FrontPage,
reset the count on the "live" page, save
the changes and the correct count should
show.

Would it help if you knew that the counter (web component) was located on a
"frame" page?

(text editor) and change the number, however do not change the number of
digits.

Open FP
File Menu | Open Web
Enter your URL as http://www.yourdomainname.com
Enter login info, click OK, then click Open
Open _private folder
Locate yourpagename.htm.cnt
right click open in Notepad
change the number, but not the number of overall digits

example:

00000123

change to

00000621

Diana,

In general not a good idea to post attachments, especially now as a lot of
virus are being posted to newsgroups and everyone's email on a daily basis.

You need to contact your host and ask them to run a check on the extensions
for your account and/or check permissions.

Sorry ... it was a pasted attachment ... but, an attachment, just the same,
I guess. I didn't mean to cause problems. I'll give my ISP a call and see
what's up.

Thanks for all your tips. You've been a great help ... many times. Diana

Thomas,
I spoke with my ISP ... I needed to access the server files through a
different path. It then worked. Thanks again.
