I can't remember which F key it is to reset the bios password. Can someone help refresh my memory

Depending on your BIOS you may see instructions on screen at boot-up. For
me it's the DEL key. Sometimes the key is manufacturer specific. I think
an old Compaq laptop of mine was F10. So look for something at boot up that
says "Hit X key for setup" or try the different Function keys

Another common one is F1. If you've forgotten the password you will need to clear it. Usually this is done by a jumper on the motherboard which you'll have to look up from your manual or by trying to find on the manufactor website for your board. An old method for clearing BIOS passwords was to remove the motherboard battery for 20 minutes but I've heard this method doesn't work so well on newer boards??? Also, I've heard there are BIOS password bypass utilities that can be downloaded from various internet sites - I have no experience with these, however.

Bios password resets usually require you to switch a jumper inside the case,
if it was just a case of pressing the right key combination there wouldn't
be much point trying to protect the Bios with a password now would there?

Or some times you have to short a piece of copper to reset the BIOS. I had
to do this once when I overclocked my Athlon XP 1.6GHz in the BIOS to
something like 2.3GHz! It wouldn't boot. Proabably didn't actually obtain
2.3GHzs either.

Oh well.
