Can anyone tell me how to restore a word document i was working on that
suddenly disappeared and became a rescue document of gobbledy gook!

Hi, Seagull.

Word usually handles such document retrieval quite well. But, when it
doesn't....

This question would probably find better answers in a Word newsgroup, rather
than here in File Management.

I'm not sure which Word NG would be best for your problem. You could start
with microsoft.public.word.newusers and let the folks there redirect you if
they can't help.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.word.newusers

That one click will start Windows Mail (if it is not already running),
create a News Account for the Microsoft public news server (which is free
and does not require you to log on), subscribe you to that newusers NG, and
download the 300 newest messages. (You can then tweak WM to suit yourself.)
That newsreader will present exactly the same messages you see here in
Microsoft Communities; they will just look different and the navigation is a
little different. Most newsgroup regulars (like me) greatly prefer a
newsreader to the web-based Communities interface.
